CONSTRUCTION OF MAND WEIR HEADWORK’S ON A SANDY PERMEABLE FOUNDATION, RAIGARH DISTRICT (CG) INDIA

Location: Near Kharsia Town, District Raigarh (Chhattisgarh) India.
The superstructure of weir, is 300 m long and rests on a permeable foundation of sand. 60 cm thick R.C.C. diaphragm wall, resting on compact shale below sand, has been provided on the upstream and downstream for confining the structure of the sand in between.
The superstructure is made of concrete with upstream and downstream aprons of precast concrete blocks, each weighing 4.5 tons, packed with stones. It has an under sluice, canal head regulator and earthen afflux bund. The work was completed practically in a record time of eighteen months.
