CONSTRUCTION OF A HORSESHOE-SHAPED DIVERSION TUNNEL FOR MALAPRABHA DAM, KARNATAKA, INDIA
Client: Water Resources Department, Government Of Karnataka
Location: Malaprabha Dam (Karnataka State), India
This diversion tunnel was necessary for constructing and completing the last block of the Malaprabha masonry dam. The tunnel is constructed on the left high bank, 2.5 m in height, 515 metres long, in a horseshoe shape.
Tunnel work started on both ends, and was completed in 100 days. On average, 2 pulls were done per day by the full-face method. A maximum of 8 pulls per day was achieved, with length of 3 m per pull. The peak progress was 200 m in a month. The tunnel had two bends. Precise surveys and blasting was executed in such a way that both the side tunnels met practically in the middle with clinical precision.
Besides these, we have completed many more such projects. Further details can be seen in the company’s office in Indore.
