Mohini Pick-Up Weir has been converted into an impounding reservoir by providing 30 feet high radial gates over the crest of an existing weir. This was done to counteract the additional tensile stresses that were developing due to the increase in height of the structure. It became imperative to install pre-stressed anchors from the top of the weir to ensure the stability of the structure.
The work comprises of installation of 122 Nos. of 75 tons anchors, which pass through the body of the dam and are anchored in the foundation rock at sufficient depth. The maximum length of anchors was 36 meters including 7 meters in rock. Each tendon comprises of 7 numbers of 12.7 mm nominal diameter P.C. strand wire, class-II. These anchors, designed for as long a life as that of the dam, have been minutely protected against corrosion.
